CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, to Retire in 2024

Jim Ryan, the head honcho at Sony Interactive Entertainment, is retiring after 30 years at the company.

After being announced as the CEO of SIE back in 2019, Ryan managed to carry the company through the COVID debacle and the component shortages during their PlayStation 5 launch, turning it into one of their most successful platforms.

Kenichiro Yoshida, the CEO at Sony, said the PS5 is “on track to become SIE’s most successful console yet.” and he compliments Ryan on being able to manage the launch during the height of the pandemic.

Starting in 1994, before the original PlayStation was released, Ryan has assisted in setting a foothold for SIE in the European market.

Sony stated that it was becoming increasingly difficult for Ryan to juggle his work life in the US and his home life in the UK, hence the retirement. As of the 1st of April 2024 (sus) Hiroki Totoki will take over from Ryan as interim CEO while maintaining his CFO, COO and presidential positions at Sony Group Corporation.

Sony is confident that Totoki will serve for at most a year, and it’s possible that they may even have a successor to Ryan before he even retires.

Perhaps we’ll start to see some new and interesting takes for Sony from the new CEO. Only time will tell.
