Sea of Stars is a truly remarkable game and experience, and there is a reason why many critics are saying that it’s a strong contender for Game of the Year.
One of the game’s core concepts is Relics, which are powerful little pieces of gear that either enhance or modify your gameplay.
Some Relics will grant parties additional experience points, and some can either increase or decrease the game’s overall difficulty and combat.
However, because of the sheer amount of Relics available to collect in the game, it can get a little overwhelming choosing the best ones to complement your playstyle, so here are some of my favourites and the ones I recommend at least trying when just starting out:
Amulet of Storytelling
If you’re looking to play Sea of Stars for the story and experience rather than the challenge, then one of the first Relics you’ll get in the game is the perfect one for you.
Amulet of Storytelling is a Relic that, when equipped, increases the entire party’s HP by 100% and also auto-heals the group after each combat.
This is great for players who want to play through the game without having to farm resources or constantly grind.
Sequent Flare
Sequent Flare is another wonderful Relic that players will receive early in the game. With Sequent Flare, parties will create these super visible flares that will trigger whenever a hit or a block is timed perfectly.
Timing your hits and blocks is what Sea of Stars is all about, and being able to confirm that the timed action input was perfect is a great way to get feedback and improve your timing accordingly.
This isn’t a relic you’ll want to use permanently, but it’s vital when you start playing and developing the right rhythm to combat.
Tome of Knowledge
Another great relic is the Tome of Knowledge. Once unlocked, any character can equip the Tome of Knowledge, and whichever character does equip it will receive a 20% increase to the XP gained by the entire party.
This boost will significantly help speed up the levelling of characters. Because higher-level characters have better stats and skills, it’s almost an indispensable Relic to have and to use.
The only catch when it comes to the Tome of Knowledge is that it can be tricky to find because it can only be picked up from a specific secret vendor. To grab it, you’ll have to make your way to Brisk and then use a ladder at the port to descend into the water and swim behind the southernmost dock.
There, players will find a secret merchant selling the Tome of Knowledge for 150 Gold.
Gold Tooth
The Gold Tooth Relic is one of the best in Sea of Stars because it makes all your purchases throughout the rest of the game considerably cheaper.
When players use it, everything sold by merchants you encounter will be reduced by 10%. While this discount isn’t huge for day-to-day items like potions or ingredients, it does make a big difference when buying some of the more advanced gear.
The only downside to the Gold Tooth relic is that it’s expensive, and players will need to invest 225 Gold to grab it, making it one of the most costly in the game.
If you want to grab it for yourself, the Gold Tooth relic is old solid in the shop in the Town of Lucent.
