Grand Theft Auto 6 – Everything We Know So Far

To say the Grand Theft Auto is successful is to downplay it significantly. Grand Theft Auto 5 alone has sold over 185 million copies, putting it just below Minecraft as the best-selling game ever. Ten years after its release, it’s a game that is still consistently one of the top-played games across PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

However, since Grand Theft Auto 5’s debut, fans have been calling out for Grand Theft Auto 6 and with new news, leaks and rumours seemingly popping up out of the ethos daily, we’ve gone ahead and compiled everything we know about the upcoming game so that it’s all in one, easy to digest place.

In February of 2022, Rockstar officially confirmed the next Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 6, was in development. Still, since then, they’ve been pretty quiet when sharing any details about the project.

What Platforms Will Grand Theft Auto 6 Release On?

We don’t have any definitive answer as to what platforms the game will release on. Still, it’s safe to assume that the first platforms to release the game will be PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a PC release coming later.

Both of Rockstar’s other huge titles, namely Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, only released their PC posts over a year after the games were released for console.

When Will Grand Theft Auto 6 Be Released?

Currently, there isn’t a set release date for the game. However, Take-Two Interactive has suggested that the game will be released sometime between April and March 2025.

What Will The Setting Be?

According to multiple online leaks over the years, the next instalment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise will be set in Vice City – and Rockstar will be adding new missions and cities to the game on an ongoing basis.

The game will also reportedly be a Bonnie & Clyde-inspired story, following bank robbers Lucia and Jason. Lucia is the first female playable character since GTA leapt to 3D.

The Big Gameplay Leak

Almost a year ago to the day, on the 18th of September 2022, Grand Theft Auto 6 suffered the biggest and most significant leak of recent memory when a hacker managed to gain access to Rockstar’s network and stole many of the available assets before posting over 90 videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 online.

The footage that was leaked, which was, by the way, verified by Rockstar, showed off NPCs, gunplay and parts of the world.

Changes To The Team

As with all the Grand Theft Auto games since 1997, Grand Theft Auto 6 is once again being developed by Rockstar North, only this time, the team is working with Cfx.re, the modding team behind the biggest Grand Theft Auto 5 roleplaying serves.

Two well-known developers have also left Rockstar ahead of the upcoming game, and Rockstar’s VP of writing, Mike Unsworth – although there is a chance that before he left in August of 2023, he had already finished writing the script from Grand Theft Auto 6.

Changes To The Game

Recently, a source close to Rockstar Games revealed that the upcoming game will feature episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience as part of the in-game radio lineup.

Integrating a real-life podcast into a fictional world is a bold move that should add a unique level of immersion to the game.

Details on how Rockstar will incorporate the podcast into the game are still murky, but players will likely be able to tune into a JRE radio station while driving and listen to select highlights from the show.
