You know that game where you need to answer a Would You Rather Scenario, where you can never truly win, no matter which of the evils you pick? Well, if asked if I would rather never watch a movie again or only be able to watch the Barbenhimer movie, I guess I’d have a lot of free time on my hands…
Some background on how we got here: Barbie and Oppenheimer were released the same day, earlier this year, and both movies went on to be massively successful both critically and commercially.
Much of both films’ success can be chalked up to what the internet dubbed the Barbenheimer phenomenon. The Barbenheimer phenomenon was a cultural moment where two huge movies launched on the same day that were so incredibly and radically different that the internet caught alight, and everyone flocked to watch both films.
And now, the phenomenon is getting a life of its own and a movie to match.
Coming from Full Moon Pictures, a company headed by B-movie veteran Charles Band, the plot synopsis for the upcoming film reads:
“Deep within Dollsville, a group of fed-up female dolls, led by the brilliant Dr. Barbenheimer build an atomic bomb. Their mission? To bring down the patriarchy once and for all. But as the battle of the sexes swells, will Barbenheimer and her bevy of beauties end up blowing up more than they bargained for?”
The movie is currently in pre-production, and while it has yet to get a writer or director on board, the film already has a release date of Christmas 2023 via Prime Video.
As of writing this, there is, unfortunately, no trailer for this masterpiece, but judging from its release date – we won’t have to wait long.
