While it might not be as bad as hearing that petrol prices are going up or that Eskom has decided to increase the cost of the electricity they struggle to supply us, reading this still makes my wallet cry.
PlayStation are raising the prices of all their 12-month subscriptions, by a lot.
On their blog, PlayStation says that the price hike will “enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.”.
Sounds very similar to a patch update coming in, and all we get is, “this patch will improve system performance”.
| Current Price | New Price | |
| PlayStation Plus Essential | R749 | R935 |
| PlayStation Plus Extra | R1,239 | R1,550 |
| PlayStation Plus Deluxe | R1,429 | R1,785 |
The price updates will kick into effect from the 6th of September. Anyone who upgrades, downgrades or purchases additional time after that date will be affected by the pierce adjustments. For anyone whose subscription carries over the September date, their package prices won’t change until your next renewal date on or after, the 6th of November.
Feels a little bit underhanded that the prices are jumping so high and that we’ve barely got any reason as to why. It’s also been shoved at the bottom of the blog post to try and cover it up with this month’s upcoming free games.
What do you think about the price hike? Will you be downgrading or even cancelling your subscription? Or will you stay where you are? Let us know in the comments.
