You wouldn’t be able to call yourself an esports fan in South Africa without at least having heard of Samantha Wright. Over the last few years, she’s set herself up as a powerful voice in a mostly male-dominated field and has pulled ahead of the pack.
This year alone, she has had the opportunity to take her talents to the global stage, casting for Gamers8 in Saudi Arabia and the Intel Extreme Masters in Cologne, as well as bringing the heat as a presenter for the very first Street Fighter 6 global tournament, the Red Bull Kumite, that took place on South African soil.
Knocking down barrier after barrier and putting women in esports at the forefront of everything she does, Gsport has nominated Sam for not one but two categories in their annual Women in Sports Awards. She’s also the only nominee from the esports community.
Nominated in both the Special Recognition category, “An individual who goes beyond the call of duty and has made a long and positive impact on SA women in sport.” and the Woman in Social Media category, “A woman who creates powerful online content about SA women in sport and demonstrates a convincing edge using Social Media during the Year under Review (30 June 2022 to 30 June 2023).”, Sam is yet again showing that she is a force to be reckoned with.

If you think Sam deserves your vote [We don’t think… we know! Vote Sam, Vote Sam, Vote Sam, Vote Sam, Vote Sam, Vote Sam, Vote Sam, Vote Sam- Ed] then head on over to the Gsport website, create an account and hit that vote button.
Thank you, Sam, for paving the way for the many other talented women we have in South Africa to, hopefully soon, follow alongside you in the international limelight.
