Last week, at Gamescom 2023, AMD announced two new graphics cards to its lineup, the Radeon RX 7800 XT and the RX 7700 XT. The new graphics cards will be available from September, fleshing out the RX 7000 series, which was introduced in late 2022 with the RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX.
While competing directly against NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070, AMD has set their new offerings at $449 for the RX 7700 XT and $499 for the 7800 XT. According to AMD’s presentation slides (We will do our own independent testing), the RX 7800 XT is, on average, 9,3% faster than the RTX 4070 across 14 titles, while the RX 7700 XT is, on average 16,4% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB across 15 titles. Bold claims from AMD, but given the RTX 4060 Ti GPUs’ poor reception and unfavourable pricing, AMD is looking to undercut the competition.
Both GPUs are based on NAVI 32 and the familiar RDNA3 architecture with 2nd generation Ray Tracing accelerators.
As always, these graphics cards’ success will depend on retail pricing, availability and real-world performance from independent testing. Based on specifications, the graphics cards look good, and this announcement should bring more options to gamers looking for 60 FPS+ gaming at 1440P and below.
