Atari Just Announced The Atari 2600+ Console – And It’s Launching With New And Classic Games

Today is the day for new and exciting gaming announcements thanks to Gamescom and Atari started things off strong by announcing the Atari 2600+ Console – a new console that can play both new and classic games.

The Atari 2600+ console is a faithful recreation of the classic four-switch console that was first launched in 1980 but with some modern technology included to freshen things up.

These more modern touches include HDMI output, USB power, and support for multiple screen resolutions. The cartridge slot is also backwards compatible with hundreds of Atari 2600 and 7800 games.

The console will launch with a 10-Games-in-1 Cartridge containing highly recognisable games from Atari’s history, including Adventure, Yars’ Revenge and Missile Command. For those looking to tickle that nostalgic feeling, the console comes with a CX40+ Joystick Controller that’s been recreated with the same size and layout as the original.

The Atari 2600+ will launch on the 17th of November and will retail for $129.99 or R2,434, roughly. Pre-orders are currently available on Atari’s website, which you can find by following the link here.
