Xbox Introduces a New Strike System for Infringements

Xbox is launching a new Strike System to give players a clear view of where they stand in the Xbox Community.

From today, everyone will be given a clean, strikeless slate and every time an infringement occurs, users will be able to see how many strikes they are on.

While you will start with a clean slate, you will still have to complete your already accrued ban time.

During an interview with The Verge, Xbox Player services corporate vice president Dave McCarthy went on to explain that previously players were confused as to how some infringements got players a one-day ban. In contrast, others of a similar type got players banned for months. This new system shows players exactly how many strikes they have, and as the strike count increases, so does the severity of the ban.

The blog post from Xbox gives us a better understanding of how the system will work with neat infographics.

We can see that getting one or two strikes will each give you a full one-day ban from using any of Xbox’s social features, and they get exponentially longer from there on out, scoring you a full year of ban time once you hit eight strikes.

Xbox hasn’t provided a full list of infringements and how many strikes you’ll get for each, but the few we can see in the graphic show that profanity and cheating will get you one strike, sexual harassment and bullying will get you two and hate speech will score you three strikes. Each strike will stay on your profile for six months.

You will still be able to appeal if you think you have been wrongly accused.

You can check out your current enforcement history here, and it should look something like the one below, giving you a much clearer picture of where your strikes stand.
