We all know of Netflix; in fact, you probably have Netflix open right now on your TV while you’re reading this on your phone, but did you know that Netflix is also working on game streaming? Well, up until now, we’ve only been able to access their game library on iOS and Android devices.
Now Netflix is testing this game-streaming service with a small number of customers in the UK and Canada on the following devices:
- Samsung TVs
- LG TVs
- NVIDIA Shield
- Chromecast with Google TV
- Amazon Fire devices
- Roku devices
- Walmart ONN
Netflix will be adding support for other devices in the future.
The test will only include two games out of the full game library, namely Oxenfree (the first one) and Molehews Mining Adventure. Looking at the next phase of this test, we could see Netflix gaming come to web browsers, too. This will allow users to play games through the Netflix website.
Additionally, gamers will be able to use the Netflix app on their phones as a controller. The Netflix gaming platform will display a QR code that you scan, and then the app will connect to your device, very similar to the way AirConsole currently works.

This testing phase will be used to put the streaming hardware through its paces and gauge the platform’s ability to scale as more users sign up.
Guess we’re going to have to keep our eyes wide open over the next few weeks to see how well Netflix does in the game-streaming sphere.
