A Wizard In Baldur’s Gate 3 Accidentally Broke The Game… By Learning Too Many Spells

In Dungeons and Dragons, much like in Girl Guides, the moto is always Be Prepared, and that means, as a Wizard, you can never know too many spells – something no one told Baldur’s Gate 3, which has led to one Wizard wizarding to damn hard and breaking the game.

A Reddit user and Baldur’s Gate 3 player named Yourigath shared their strange game-breaking experience of trying to level their half-elf wizard to level 10.

Part of the level-up experience includes picking some new spells to add to the Spellbook. However, when Yourigath got to that stage in the level-up process, no spells appeared for them to choose from as they had already learned all the spells – rendering them stuck in a level-up hellscape.

Try not to learn "too many" spells using scrolls as a Wizard

The culprit is a Baldur’s Gate 3 system that makes it easy to unlock spells without levelling up: scrolls. Usually, spells can come in scroll format and allow players to cast them once. However, Wizards are allowed to spend gold and then add these spells to their Spellbook permanently, precisely what Yourigath did before bugging the game out and being unable to level further.

After playing around, Yourigath found a fix for this bug by installing and uninstalling a mod that let them ritual-cast spells, tricking the game into allowing them repick spells and get out of the level-up process.

The issue has been reported to the developers, so it will likely be fixed in an upcoming hotfix soon.
