Sony is Beta Testing it’s Cloud Gaming Platform in 4K

A couple of people out there are receiving invites from Sony to partake in their new PS5 Cloud Streaming beta, and it comes in 4K.

Whether that is 4K from a graphics perspective or 4K from a streaming perspective, we have no confirmation from Sony yet, but this could mean that the quality that hits your screen at the end of the day should be of high quality.

A post picked up on the ResetEra forum shows that you will be able to choose the resolution, starting from 720p and moving up; to 1080, 1440p and 2160p. The user ArashiGames also pointed out that saves will load directly from the cloud for an instant gaming experience. Currently, the games list includes God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, Fortnite, Fall Guys, Destiny 2, Returnal, Demon’s Souls, Death Stranding, Sackboy A Big Adventure and Destruction All-Stars.

Sony has yet to say more than this is in line with the testing they mentioned earlier in the year.

An interesting thought is that the Cloud Streaming testing is happening just in time for Project Q to use this feature. While it is thought that the Project Q device should only be able to stream from your own console, Sony hasn’t really given us too much detail on that, so there is still a chance that the device could be a complete Cloud Streaming handheld utilising this Cloud Streaming as it’s the main form of games access.

For now, it’s exciting to see that the feature is actually out in the wild, and we should start to see it and more detail around it pretty soon.

What do you think of Cloud Gaming in South Africa? Is it something we should be excited about or not? [Yes! – Ed]
