It’s been a jam-packed few months in Anime and sadly, August is pretty dry by comparison. That’s fine though, fewer releases mean more hard hitters and time for me to try and catch up with years of backlog.
For those who might not have read my previous monthly lineup posts, I cover everything new heading to Crunchyroll which is essentially Netflix for anime.
Crunchyroll is a subscription service focused on East Asian media like Japanese Anime and one of the main perks of the service is that much of the anime available on it can be watched dubbed in English, and love it or hate it; it’s the only way I can watch anime while I work.
So if you’re looking to follow me down the rabbit hole this coming month, here are all the new anime additions coming to Crunchyroll in August 2023:
Rurouni Kenshin Reboot

The Rurouni Kenshin franchise is not only wildly beloved but it also spanned an anime series with 94 episodes as well as a hugely successful live-action movie series that ended in 2021.
Now the franchise is getting a reboot and while the new reboot will differ slightly from the original anime, the plot is nearly the same.
Rurouni Kenshin Reboot is set in Feudal Japan and chronicles the story of Hitokiri Battousai, a legendary assassin whose sword skills are unrivalled.
Hitokiri Battousai played a crucial part in rebuilding the country during the Age of Restoration, but then left without a trace, only to reappear eleven years later as a wandering samurai known as Himura Kenshin.
When he returns, Himura Kenshin resolves not to kill anyone to atone for his past sins of taking so many lives. However, his past soon comes back to haunt him in the form of old rivals, enemies, and those who followed in his footsteps.
One Piece Episode 1071

One Piece has reason to get excited for this one as One Piece Episode 1071 will be the climax of the Wano Country arc that the show has been building up towards.
One Piece Episode 1071 will see Gear 5 Luffy’s highly anticipated debut in the anime.
The episode kicks off shortly after Luffy was defeated by Kaido on the roof of Onigashima’s Skull Dome, and in the teaser for the episode we see Luffy’s friends refuse to accept his defeat and then see Luffy’s heart start beating strangely and a smoke begins to cover his body – the start of Luffy’s big transformation into Gear 5.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 2

The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 2 will see Tristan reunited with Lancelot for the first time since their tragic accident and will see Tristan learn to conquer his inner demons to save his mother’s life.
The Seven Deadly Sins is wildly considered to be one of the best fantasy anime shows around and after the anime officially ended, many fans started to publically speculate on when and if there would be more episodes in the form of specials or, hopefully, a revival and now we’ve got just that, in the form of The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 2.
In the latest entry, we follow Tristan, the son of Meliodas and Elizabeth, who inherits the power of the Goddess Clan and is determined to save his mother from the curse despite his inability to control his abilities.
And there you have it, the Crunchyroll lineup for August. What Anime are you planning on diving into? Let me know in the comments below, and who knows, maybe you’ll be responsible for my new addiction.
