New 16-Player Survival Game, Inspired By Valheim, Terraria, And Minecraft In The Works

Codename: Islands is a new, upcoming 16-player survival crafting game inspired by Minecraft, Valheim, and Terraria that’s coming to us from several veterans of Riot Games, who grouped together to form their own development studio, Treehouse Games.

According to Treehouse Games themselves, Codename: Islands will bring players to a mysterious, unexplored ocean world where they will need to work together to build a settlement on top of a magical, living island.

“Players will partner with up to 16 of their friends in a shared world where they can build an ever-evolving home, explore surrounding islands, craft powerful gear, battle monsters, and awaken their island spirit.”

The teaser video that was released alongside the game announcement does show off much of the game, but we do get to see three adventurers arriving on a tropical island and using magic to awaken a mysterious entity.

According to Michael Chu, the former product manager at Riot Games and co-founder of Treehouse Games:

“We love social games where we can find quality time with others. But far too often, multiplayer goes straight to brutal competition and shooting each other when all you want is to hang out and have fun with your friends.

In our game, whether you love to base-build, gather, explore, fight world bosses, or craft unique gear to create your own kit, you’ll play an essential role in your group.”

From what’s been said by the team and the teaser video, it’s safe to assume that Codename: Islands will be a fun, cosy-style cooperative game for you to dive into with plenty of friends to keep you company.

Codename: Islands will only be arriving sometime in 2024, but Treehouse Games has said that they will be sharing a full game announcement as well as playtest sign-ups sometime in 2023.
