The Steam Deck has been out for almost a year and a half at this point, and up until now; the signature trackpads have not yet been challenged by any other device, until now.
The trackpads have been the one thing to truly set the Steam Deck apart from all the other handheld devices that have followed it, offering users an almost mouse-like functionality for games without native controller support.
With the arrival of the Ayaneo Kun on Indiegogo, the Steam Deck might face some competition. The Ayaneo Kun has an official launch date set for the end of August. Alongside Steam Deck-esque trackpads, it also comes with a Ryzen 7 7840U APU.

The Ayaneo Kun has innovative dual intelligent touchpads to combat Valve’s square pads. It’s also running an 8.4-inch screen with a 1600p native resolution, making it a bigger boy than the Steam Deck.
It’s being marketed as a device for semi-mobile scenarios, meaning there is little chance you’re slipping it into a pocket – even boy pockets. But a bigger device also means more significant specs and the Ayaneo Kun boasts an impressive 75Wh battery.
The device will be available in three different models when it launches in August. The Ayaneo Kun, The Ayaneo Air 1S, a 5.5-inch 1080p device, and the Ayaneo Slide – which comes with a slide-out screen and an RGB-backlit keyboard underneath.

As of writing, there is currently no information about weight or cost, and there also aren’t any reviews for the yet-to-be-released device, so those interested will have to wait to see how this all pans out.
Will you keep the Ayaneo Kun on your radar? Let me know in the comments.
