Tencent has done it again and caught themselves yet another game studio; this time, that studio is Techland.
For those unfamiliar, Techland is the developer behind the hugely successful Dying Light franchise, and they’ve just announced that Tencent, the Chinese gaming overlords, will soon become the company’s biggest shareholder.
“Today I am happy to announce the partnership with Tencent who are in the process of becoming Techland’s majority shareholder.
Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games. We have chosen an ally who has already partnered with some of the world’s finest videogame companies and helped them reach new heights while respecting their ways of doing things.” – Pawel Marchewka, Techland CEO.

Pawel Marchewka has described the partnership with Tencent as joining like-minded friends and strong partners who share the same vision and passion and are willing to back it up with their knowledge, experience, and capabilities.
“We will retain full ownership of our IPs, maintain creative freedom, and continue to operate the way we believe is right”.
Over the last couple of years, Tencent has positioned itself as an absolute powerhouse in the gaming industry and either has investments in or owns multiple considerable names in the industry, such as Riot Games, Epic, Grinding Gear, Supercell, Yager, Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard, Fatshark, Turtle Rock, Remedy, Klei, and more.
As of now, the specifics of the partnership are unknown, but judging from what we’ve seen with Tencent and other gaming companies, they seem happy to take a more hands-off approach with all of them, so Techland fans shouldn’t have to worry about any significant changes in direction any time soon.
