Project Q is Sony’s attempt to bring itself back into the handheld market. The company had a solid foot in the door with the Sony PSP, but handhelds dropped in popularity and Sony took a step back. Now that devices like the Steamdeck and the ASUS ROG Ally are out in the wild, Sony is taking another swing at it.
With rumours floating around the internet that the device will be coming out around “mid-late November” we’ve just seen the first leak, giving us some indication of what the device would look like along with a sneak peak on what OS the device is running.
Zuby Tech posted a few pictures and a short video where he quickly plays with the Project Q device. It still has its protective plastic wrap on it and the low resolution of the video doesn’t help much for getting a good view of the thing, but we can see that it’s running some sort of Android OS.
The video shows the device being controlled with both the analogue sticks and buttons from the controller as well as touch controls on the screen itself. Everything does seem to respond quite quickly and it looks smooth.

Sony has said that Project Q is supposed to be for streaming games directly off of the PS5, but with an Android-backed OS we should, hopefully, see the device achieve a lot more than that. Sony is also working on their cloud gaming platform and handheld devices like the Q could be the perfect console for it.
What do you think of Project Q? Something you might pick up? Let us know in the comments.
