Xbox Live Gold is leaving us and to replace it, Microsoft is launching Game Pass Core.
Since its release in 2017, Game Pass has been one of the most accessible ways for gamers to get right down to it and get their game on. Now Microsoft is phasing out the old and bringing everyone to Game Pass.
Game Pass Core will essentially be the same as Xbox Live Gold, it will cost the same, R79, and it will offer online capabilities just like Xbox Live Gold did, but it will also allow players access to a list of 25 games that they can access as long as their subscription is kept.
Some of the games set to be on the list when Game Pass Core kicks off on the 14th of September are:
- Among Us
- Descenders
- Dishonored 2
- Doom Eternal
- Fable Anniversary
- Fallout 4
- Fallout 76
- Forza Horizon 4
- Gears 5
- Grounded
- Halo 5: Guardians
- Halo Wars 2
- Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
- Human Fall Flat
- Inside
- Ori & The Will of the Wisps
- Psychonauts 2
- State of Decay 2
- The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
This list could change over the course of the Core lifespan and could differ from country to country.
Any Xbox One games that you redeemed through Xbox Live Gold will remain there as long as you keep your Game Pass Core subscription active, Xbox 360 games on the other hand will remain playable no matter your subscription status.
The Games with Gold initiative will end on the 1st of September though, meaning the two free monthly games will fall away. This will probably drive most members to purchase the Game Pass Ultimate Subscription which grants you access to the full Game Pass catalogue, but if you are happy with the smaller list, then Game Pass Core will treat you just fine.
