Waffle, A Wordle-Inspired Game, Is More Popular Than Real Waffles

Suppose you were looking for Waffles and did what many of us do and went to Google. In that case, you probably won’t be finding the-any-day-any-time treat you were expecting. Instead, you’ll be served a delicious helping of Waffle – a daily word puzzle game heavily inspired by everyone’s guilty pleasure, Wordle.

To say that Wafle is popular is an understatement, and there’s a reason why the game has managed to knock the delicious syrup-coated treat out of first place. Waffle currently has over 450,000 daily players.

James Robinson, the game’s creator, says that since the success of his game, he has received multiple offers to sell the game, similar to how Wordle was purchased by the New York Times shortly after it became a hit. However, James Robinson isn’t selling.

“One of the offers was a life-changing amount of money. I could have done that and finished it there. But I have always wanted to make more games, and if I was to sell it, I wouldn’t have that platform to make more. It’s a decision I still think about every day. But… we are keeping it independent.” – James Robinson

While inspired by Wordle, Waffle is its own beast and offers an exciting twist on the daily puzzle genre. Instead of an empty gird, Waffle is already filled in for you. However, the letters are in the wrong places, and you need to solve six intersecting words by swapping letters around before you run out of moves.

Similar to Wordle, Waffle is easy to understand and get going but tricky to master, and that’s where the fun lies. According to the creator, much of the game’s success can be traced to Reddit, where he posted the game and then let the internet do its thing.

James Robinson is currently working on a standalone app for Waffle, but until then, you can play this addicting daily puzzle by following the link here.
