Star Wars Outlaws – Every Planet Will Be Handcrafted

Earlier this year, Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world Star Wars game by Ubisoft, was announced. From the announcement, it was already clear that Star Wars Outlaws wouldn’t be a small game. The creative director, Julian Gerighty, has said that Star Wars Outlaws will have no procedurally generated planets, unlike many other big sci-fi games.

The problem with a lot of procedurally generated games is that there are many places to visit but only a few things to do in each place, or in this case, planet, which is why Star Wars Outlaws has chosen a different path.

According to Julian Gerighty, it’s not yet known precisely how many planets will be available to visit and explore or even how big these planets will be, but each planet that is included will be fully handcrafted and packed with content.

“It’s a crude analogy, but the size of one planet might be about equivalent to two of the zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, for example. It could be two or three zones. But it’s not, you know, this sort of epic ‘the whole of England recreated’ approach.” – Julian Gerighty.

Julian Gerighty also said that players won’t be able to explore the space above planets freely; instead, there will be close-orbit areas for players to explore.

“We’re really focusing on what ‘open world’ means to the player, which is full freedom of approach.”

Currently, there is no release date for Star Wars Outlaws, but from what we know, players can expect to see the game sometime in 2024 or 2025.
