A brand new Pokemon manga is set to release next month, and this time around, it will be a comedy manga. Called Pocket Monster – Yorimichi Volteccers, the manga will be based on the Pokemon Horizons: The Series anime and set within the same universe with the same characters.
The announcement of this manga comes to us courtesy of the August issue of Ciao magazine, published by Shogakukan. Pocket Monster – Yorimichi Volteccers will be written by Rikka Kise, a newcomer to the Pokémon publishing journey and will premiere on August 3rd, 2023, in the next issue of Ciao.
Another reveal was also made in the same issue of Ciao, the current Pokemon manga, Pokemon: Liko’s Treasure, has finished its final chapter.
The manga began its run on May 2nd and reached its conclusion this month after two issues. This manga was part of the Pokemon Horizons: The Series anime universe and told a side story to accompany the anime.
Pokemon Horizons: The Series is the first part of the new anime that doesn’t feature Ash Ketchum, who left the series after finally becoming the Pokemon World Champion.
Instead, the anime follows two new characters, Liko and Roy, and Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet. It also has a new Pikachu character known as Captain Pikachu.
The anime first started airing on the 14th of April and is set to continue to air for the foreseeable future. These short spin-off manga issues aim to help flesh out the new world and characters. The previous anime ran from 1998 to 2022 and focused almost entirely on Ash and his Pikachu.
Pocket Monster – Yorimichi Volteccers will likely be another short story like Pokemon: Liko’s Adventures. The goal is to get fans interested in, and invested in, the new characters and help them move on from Ash.
