Get Diablo IV Loot by Chasing the Rats?

Ah, Diablo and its fan theories. First, it was the mysterious Diablo IV Cow Level and now it’s chasing rats? I think some scientific investigation is needed here.

The latest loot theory in Diablo IV is that following the rats around in the dungeons will lead you to where the loot is actually hidden instead of following the natural dungeon path. According to this Reddit post that is.

Okay this is going to sound really bizarre, but you need to follow the rats for good loot. Don’t follow the predetermined path in any dungeon, instead, just follow the rats. The rats smell the cheese! I’m telling you it’s real and I feel like I’m crazy but I found multiple legendaries doing this within a span of maybe 10 minutes. The rats will tell you which pack of enemies to kill, and then they wander towards where you need to go! It’s real I’m not crazy! FOLLOW THE RATS

While the OP, Zerger45, didn’t actually post any evidence of the theory working, multiple players have, and the results are shocking. Redditors have posted their drops and one of the rarest items for Necromancers was also found using the rat method.

The Ring of Mendeln was hunted for over two days until Reddit user iloveobjects read the original rat theory and gave it a try. They claimed it worked after just 15 mobs.

Some Redditors even go on to discuss what a good “rat following build” would look like and the highest rated seems to be a defensive build with no AOE attacks so that you don’t accidentally kill off your new loot-finding buddy.

Whether this is just luck on the side of the players or an actual mechanic, we are yet to find out, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I’m logging in to Diablo this very second to see what I can find.
