South Africa’s Competition Tribunal Approves Microsoft’s R1.26 Trillion Purchase of Activision – With No Conditions

Another chapter in the saga of Microsoft’s attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard has ended, with South Africa’s Competition Tribunal unconditionally approving the proposed $68.7 billion or R1.26 trillion transaction.

In a hearing held by the Competition Tribunal, it was decided that despite competitors expressing concerns, the Competition Tribunal found it was unlikely that the transaction would result in any substantial losses for any of the competition.

The announcement of this decision comes via the Competition Tribunal’s official website and can be viewed by following the link here. This ruling in Microsoft’s favour comes after it was recommended back in April that the Competition Tribunal approve the deal in South Africa without any conditions.

The Competition Tribunal has yet to release its decision’s reasons, but that will likely come in the following days.
