Tabletop miniatures are sometimes referred to as ‘plastic crack’ because building, painting, showing them off and playing with them is addictive as all hell. We used only to be able to get the miniatures that companies sold to us, but with 3D-Printers hitting the market, we’ve been blessed with more variety, and it’s absolutely wonderful.
Hero Forge is an online, browser-based miniature creation tool that gives us the power to create our own miniature ala-character creator from most modern RPGs. Well, now they’re adding even more customisation.
Hero Forge will be adding the ability to completely customise your character’s face, using a mix and match of all the pieces they already have available or using different sliders to customise them, down to the last nose-hole, this August.
Teagan Morrison, the founder of Sky Castle Studios, the parent company of Hero Forge, said it took them a year to create the original Hero Forge. Still, the face customisation feature was a “magnitude more” than the original because they had to develop new techniques and technology to drive it. “It was more difficult than the original Hero Forge was to make in its entirety,” he said to Polygon in an interview.
While having a custom face on a tiny figure may not be so useful, you can print the models up to a bigger size if you’d like, but Teagan thinks that this tool will come most in handy to those that use the models for Virtual Tabletop gaming.
Hero Forge is already connected to Foundry VTT, where players can use their virtual models created in Hero Forge to show off their talents at face sculpting while destroying goblins or throwing around pints at the local tavern.
