How do you go and make something exclusive even more so? Well, you be Bethesda, and you team up with AMD so that not only is your game only for Xbox and PC, but it’s optimised for only one of the big GPU brands.
In a video released by AMD, they announce an ‘exclusive’ partnership with Bethesda on the Starfield game, and they discuss how they’ve “worked hand in hand with Bethesda to Optimise the game for Ryzen 7000 processors and Radeon 7000 GPUs”.
This doesn’t bode well for Nvidias DLSS and Intels XeSS upscaling features.
While it doesn’t mean that people that don’t have an AMD card can’t play it, it does mean that the game won’t run as well as it could on the other cards out there. Even though AMD’s FSR2 is available on all graphics cards, it will still limit non-AMD cards’ ability to perform for such an expansive game that should literally be blowing our minds. [Also, let’s be honest here for a moment; DLSS is a far superior technology at the moment, it will be a great letdown if this will be the case. – Ed]
Bethesda hasn’t outright claimed that the game will only support FSR2. So we’ll keep our eyes glued to Bethesda’s outlets to find out if we’ll be getting DLSS and XeSS support later in September or if we’ll have to be just as upset as, let’s call it, 50% of the internet.
