Keeping Yourself Busy While Diablo gets DDoS’d

If you haven’t already read, Blizzard got slapped with a DDoS attack early on Sunday morning. Some people like to sleep in on Sundays, but, I like to wake up early and sneak in some game time.

Hopping on to Diablo at around 7AM I was troubled with login issues, and when I eventually did get in, the game was too laggy to attempt anything serious. #NoHardcoreForAfrica.

In preparation for the next time Blizzard gets attacked, or if you are just unlucky enough to play during a laggy server experience, here’s what I did to keep me sane that you’re more than welcome to copy.

1. Make coffee – While the queue time for the login got longer and longer, starting from 1 minute and landing up on 16 before eventually giving me an error, I decided to make a nice warm cup of coffee. A caffeine boost and some warm hands sound just right for playing console games in the early hours of a cold morning.

2. Doom scroll – You heard me, get those thumbs all stretched out by endlessly scrolling your social platform of choice, or if the queue time allows it, all the platforms! I learned a cool new trick for my phone from a TikTok tips and tricks video, and what could be better than learning new things while preparing yourself to slay demons?

3. Explore the map – When I eventually managed to log in to the game, I couldn’t take on any bosses, I tried, but I couldn’t dodge anything, and none of my abilities fired off nicely. So I started working towards my area renown by exploring the map. It’s not exciting work, but it’s honest work.

4. Hunt loot goblins! – This one was a bit tricky. I sometimes found myself caught in a swarm of lag beasts and was forced to run away before dying, but I often managed to corner the gobbo and steal all his treasures before he escaped. Lag and all.

5. Go outside – Lol, I didn’t do this, who goes outside? Sun? Gross.

There you have it, some solid activities to keep you busy while you wait for DDoS-ers to get bored and move on to someone else’s server.
