Diablo 4 Is Back Online After Severe DDoS Attack

Diablo 4 Back Online After Severe DDoS Attack

For many hoping to spend their last few weekend hours playing Diablo 4, it was a disappointing Sunday. At 6 am South African time, Blizzard was hit with a rather severe DDoS attack that affected almost all of its Battle.net services.

The attack lasted for roughly 14 hours after Blizzard first acknowledged it on Twitter and warned players of the attack. But even after everything was back up and running, Diablo 4 was still experiencing rather significant issues into the early hours of Monday morning.

Yesterday morning, posts flooded Reddit asking about the game’s server status, with players worldwide complaining about unannounced server downtime and connection issues. The same can be said for Overwatch 2.

As of writing this, it’s still unknown who was behind the attack or what ended it. Blizzard’s official announcement marking the end of the attack was, “The DDoS attacks that we were monitoring have ended”, which sounds like the attackers just ceased fire of their own volition, but until Blizzard comes out with more information, that’s just speculation.

Because of Diablo 4’s always-online mechanic, players could do little but find something else to do while waiting for the game to return to operation once more, something that wouldn’t have been such a big issue if it had an offline mode.

We want to know if you experienced any issues while trying to play Diablo 4 yesterday. Let us know in the comments.
