While everyone’s eyeballs are set on the upcoming Apple Vision Pro and the Meta Quest 3, it’s essential to remember that the Meta Quest 2 is still a supported and viable system with constant updates and performance boosts heading its way.
With the upcoming release of the v55 software update heading to the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro virtual reality headsets, users will see a significant performance boost to their VR headsets regarding how the CPU and GPU perform.
The Meta Quest v55 update promises users a 6% improvement in CPU performance on the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro headsets. Additionally, the GPU will receive a boost and up gamers can expect a 19% increase in speed on both VR systems.
Meta has also said that users won’t just see a performance update when playing games but also how the UI functions and feels, thanks to Dynamic Resolution Scaling to help prevent frame drops.

Not all the changes brought in the v55 update are performance related either. For example, a passcode security option will also be added to allow users to choose a numerical code to access the headset. Web browsing on the headset now supports multi-touch controls on controllers and hand tracking.
The Meta Quest Pro will also be updated to have far more refined and accurate eye tracking and various tweaks to make the interaction more accessible and expressive.
The v55 update is being rolled out, but as with all the Meta updates, they are rolled out gradually, so some users will have access to it before others.
Do you use either the Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest Pro? If so, let me know your thoughts about the update in the comments.
