EA Sports and EA Games have decided to take the world on without each other. Sort of.
EA Games will be re-branded to ‘EA Entertainment’ as the team will attempt to create more than just games from this branch of EA. While both sides will still fall under EA as a whole, each sector will be getting its own leader and management teams which will give them more control and eyes over their budgets and decisions.
“We’re building the future of interactive entertainment on a foundation of legendary franchises and innovative new experiences, which represents massive opportunities for growth,” says Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA and who will remain as CEO of the whole shebang. He released a full letter to the public on EA’s site explaining it all here.
Laura Miele, previously EA’s Chief Operating Officer, will become the president of Entertainment, Technology, and Central Development at EA Entertainment, where she will work closely with other executives such as Vince Zampela. Cam Weber will remain as the head of EA Sports.
All of this seems to be a part of the big overall reshuffle that is happening at EA. While they hand over Star Wars: TOR to a different developer, they are also allowing other developers to shift around within EA.
This probably sounds worse than it is, as I can only assume that things will try to be as close to ‘business as usual’ as possible within EA. Who knows, maybe with this new way of managing the two sectors, we’ll finally get Titanfall 3 out of Respawn and the new EA Entertainment, or perhaps a Netflix series.
