Netflix has officially given us a release date for the upcoming, live-action series One Piece. Live-action remakes are notoriously quite bad compared to their anime or manga inspirations, but we’re hoping that by having the original creator’s stamp of approval, this one will be different.
From the announcement trailer, we can see that the series will feature all of the original five members of Luffys crew, Luffy, Zoro, Ussop, Nami and Sanji.
While the producers have removed a few things from the live-action that are prevalent in the manga, like Ussop’s kinda large nose, the things they have removed don’t necessarily play an essential role in the overall story, except for Sanji’s eyebrows, apparently. According to an Ecchido Oda allusion, the eyebrow swirls tie in with the mysteries of the devil fruit and its magic, but it seems like fans aren’t too upset about them not appearing in the show.
What does appear in the show, however, is Cape Town. The series is shot at the famous Cape Town Film Studios which has been the location for numerous big budget movies including Dredd 3D, Mad Max Fury Road, and Tomb Raider
