When there are no official announcements about Activision’s rumoured Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to get excited about, leaks will have to do. In this morning’s dose of could-it-really-be-true, leakers have released a series of images that claim to show off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the return of some beloved classic maps.
Any official details are scarce when it comes to what Activision has planned for the third entry into the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot series but judging from what we’ve seen thus far, its safe to assume that it will follow the same formula that Activision has established with the first two reboots.
Since the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2019, fans have been enjoying the return of fan-favourite characters with a new storyline inspired by the original games, but that has been improved and brought the franchise into a new era of gaming.

The leak by Twitter user @CoD_Perseus consists of screenshots, one pictured above, that leakers claim are the first shots of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. These pictures first made their rounds on Twitter and showed more modern versions of classic maps like Scrapyard. The images have since been removed from the post “in response to a report from the copyright holder.”
These screenshots might have some real merit because earlier this year, Insider Gaming, usually a reliable source of Activision information, posted about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, claiming that the game was already in development.
On Twitter, the reaction to the leak has been decidedly mixed, with some users expressing their excitement at the return of classic maps and others stressing their unhappiness that the leak featured reimagined versions of old locations rather than entirely new maps.
If history is anything to go on, it’s unlikely that Activision will confirm or deny the validity of this leak, so those looking for anything official will need to wait until Activision makes an announcement.
