Skyrim Sets Sales Record 12 Years After Release

Who says old games aren’t fun? The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has set a brand new sales record over 12 years after the game was first released.

Skyrim is a game that shot to critical acclaim early on. It has remained a fan favourite throughout the years, with love for the game only growing as it got ported to more platforms.

Initially released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, the game is considered a shining example of the genre and is still considered one of the best open-world games.

Todd Howard from Bethesda was recently interviewed about the upcoming Starfield when he switched the conversation to Skyrim’s sales record achievement.

During this interview, Todd Howard mentioned that The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim had officially sold 60 million copies in its 12-year run, which makes it the seventh best-selling game of all time, ranking just below Tetris, Minecraft, Mario Kart 8, and Grand Theft Auto 5.

Much of this success is undoubtedly due to the love the game still receives from Bethesda, thanks to quality-of-life improvements and an active modding community.

If you have yet to experience the joy that is The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, the Anniversary Edition is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
