This past Sunday, we had both the Xbox Showcase and the PC Gaming show one after the other, that’s a lot of show to squeeze into a Sunday night, but if I had a gun full of sleeping powder pointed at my face and I had to choose just one to watch before falling asleep it would have to be the PC Gaming Show and here’s why:
Yes, the Xbox showcase released some awesome-looking games; Fable, Clockwork Revolution, Jusant, the new Cyberpunk DLC and, of course, Starfield, but as a Showcase, it was essentially a whole lot of trailers, and then it ended. I know that most showcases are like that these days, but I feel that’s partly why events like E3 have stopped happening. Some viewers are happy to watch trailers for an hour and then continue their lives. Well, not me.
Keanu Reeves, I love you, but your performance was not enough to top the massive cringe dorkiness that was the PC Gaming Show.
While I also preferred what the PC Gaming Show had to offer regarding game variety and demos, I really enjoyed the extra bits that Sean and Frankie added to the show. It created a complete experience for me and reminded me of a time when I could walk around an expo and meet all the crazy people behind the actual games.
I admit, Sean will not be getting any calls from Hollywood directors any time soon, but once your jaw gets tired of pulling faces at the terrible acting, the real humour and appreciation for the geekiness start to kick in.
In between all the poorly written skits jabbing at AI and Sean’s Steve Jobs attire, these are all the games that revealed a trailer during the showcase:
