Stampede: Racing Royale – Battle Royale on the Streets

Close your eyes, now imagine if Mario kart and Fall Guys had a baby, now open your eyes. Stampede: Racing Royale is a 60-man kart racing game where the limited power-ups can really cause a lot of damage.

Sumo Digital, a team that’s been behind racing games for the past 20 years, have formed a new studio called Studio Leamington, and for their first game, they’re developing a 60-man kart racing royale game where players can take on 59 other people, or bots, in an all-out race for first place.

The game will follow a knockout stage style where the racers will take part in three races to earn the win. Starting with 60 racers, then dropping to 40 and then 20 in the final race, you will have to race your little heart out to ensure you snag the cup at the end, using anything you can find on the track, including your own kart. The game will also include in-game purchases where you can get items to customise your racer and your kart to make sure everyone knows who to shoot their rockets at.

While there’s nothing crazy sounding about Stampede, “sometimes it’s simplest ideas that work,” says Paul Hollywood, development director at Studio Leamington.

I can easily picture myself having a good laugh at trying to work my way through 59 other racers on a kart track before being knocked out by a sneaky mine at the finish line.

Think you’re up for the challenge? You can sign up for playtesting on their website before the game launches into Early Access on Steam later this year.
