AK-Xolotl Reveals Gameplay Trailer

Maybe you’re tired of hearing about top-down, bullet-hell, survival-shooter rogue-lites, maybe you’re not, either way you most certainly have to check out AK-xolotl, just because it’s cute af and you can go super-saiyan.

Announced back in March this year with an awesome, pixel-art inspired, David Attenborough’s twin narrated trailer, the game portrayed a comical mix of the cuteness of the salamander and the outright ridiculousness of arming it with an AK-47.

Now they’ve launched another, cute and Davidy trailer that shows off a bit more of the gameplay and they’ve explained a few of the in-game mechanics for us to drool over.

Snack
Your basic healing ability will give you one extra heart to keep taking on those big bosses. You’ll need to do a certain amount of damage to be able to use the ability though, so don’t go too crazy with it.

Summon
Reach into the depths of the nether and pull out a power-up that makes you stronger. The more power-ups you summon though, the deeper you’ll have to reach, meaning the casting time can get quite long.

Lotzilla
After collecting certain items, the Lotzilla ability will allow you to finally hit that inner growth spurt that you’ve been feeling since you were 12. Giant Axolotl plus giant gun equals giant mayhem.

Faith
The Goku-est ability of them all. It’s going Super-Saiyan mixed with Spirit Bomb and peppered with death. Faith will kill everything on screen, even you, but since you’re an axolotl blessed with a natural regenerative ability, there’s a small chance that you might just respawn from your own flashy death.

They’ve also teased that your axolotl farm, where you grow and nurture your blood-hungry beasts, will require you to make a few dark choices. I’m smelling sacrificial axolotl meat here, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Have you got your eye on this cute, yet deadly game? Let us know what platform you’re keen to play it on as it launches this spring on Steam, Playstation, Xbox and Switch.
