Some walking among us are lucky enough to already play Counter-Strike 2 as part of a limited test. I’m not one of the lucky few; I’m so unlucky that I have a higher chance of waking up tomorrow and finding myself trapped within the game than I do of being an early player.
However, not everyone did something terrible in a previous life to be cursed in this one. Some of you are already dabbling in the newest addition to the Counter-Strike franchise, and if so, this is for you.
Valve released an update to Counter-Strike 2 yesterday. In this update, the developers decided to mix things up by swapping out Dust 2 for Mirage and making substantial changes to buying and loadout.
As anyone who has played Counter-Strike before will know, the game could be more forgiving regarding purchases and any mistakes you might have made by clicking just a little too fast. Unlike other games that let you undo a mistake, Counter-Strike has a philosophy of, oh well, it sucks to be you; until now.
Taking a similar approach to Valorant, Counter-Strike 2 will now allow players to return purchases during the freeze time of each round – a small but massive change to the grandfathered-in system.
Another change that rolled out in this update is the ability for players to choose their loadout when heading into matches. Previously the game limited and restricted what players could use. Now players can choose from any five pistols, mid-tier weapons or rifles. Meaning players can now select from fifteen weapons across three categories to bring into matches.
Alongside these significant changes, the update also brought performance improvements, sub-tick finetuning, and more. Those of you who are already playing can find the full patch notes here. Enjoy.
