Diablo 4 Players Unhappy With Microtransaction Prices

After a bumpy yet ultimately successful series of beta events, the official reviews for Diablo 4 have been released. To the surprise of no one who got to play the game earlier in the month, the reviews are golden.

However, just because everyone can agree that Diablo 4 is one of the best games the franchise has seen doesn’t mean everyone is happy. With the embargo on content officially lifted, many players have taken to social media to call out the game over the hefty prices attached to the game’s in-game microtransactions.

Microtransactions have been something that gamers have been scrutinising Diablo 4 for, thanks in no small part to the disastrous way that Blizzard handled microtransactions in Diablo Immortal, which left many gamers apprehensive that those same aggressive tactics would be used.

But when Diablo 4 announced that it would be retailing for a rather staunch price tag of $70 or R1,385 for just the base edition of the game and then announced a Battle Pass system for between $10 and $25 depending, many of these fears went away with the majority of gamers believing that the microtransactions would be priced reasonably because of Blizzard structuring their monetisation of the game differently.

Oh, how wrong those gamers were. Thanks to a post that has gone viral on the official Diablo subreddit, we now know that the cosmetics in Diablo 4 could cost players up to $28 per armour set, which would be R555. This price would also make the microtransactions in Diablo 4 most expensive than in Overwatch 2, Blizzard’s free-to-play game.

It’s also worth noting that the armour set isn’t even available for all your characters but will only fit one class for this price. Also, for those players out there hoping to earn premium currency through the paid Battle Pass system to get cosmetics, Blizard has already announced that while players will earn premium currency this way, it won’t be enough to purchase the next Battle Pass.

Ok with cosmetic cash shop, but $28 for one set?!

Now I want to know from you, with a game as expensive as Diablo 4, is it justified to have microtransaction prices as high as we see here? Let me know in the comments.
