It’s been eight years since The Witcher 3 was first released, and my mind can’t comprehend that it could be so long ago already. I don’t remember what I was doing eight years ago, which is probably a sign I wasn’t doing much beyond playing The Witcher 3. No Regrets.
But if we stop looking to the past and look towards the present instead, we can see that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has reached a significant sales milestone and has sold over 50 million units since its launch.
This impressive number makes The Witcher 3 the most significant success CD Projekt Red has ever celebrated. Don’t get me wrong, CD Projekt Red managed to garner considerable success with The Witcher 1 and 2, but even so, it wasn’t until The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that they hit the figurative jackpot.
When The Witcher 3 managed to surpass over six million in sales in only six weeks, there was no denying that it had set itself up to be one of the most successful games of all time. However, even so, I don’t think anyone could have predicted how popular the single-player game would still be eight years after its release.
The School of the Wolf is growing! 🐺 Over 50 million people joined Geralt of Rivia on his Path of finding Ciri and defeating the Wild Hunt!

It’s also worth noting that almost exactly a year ago, CD Projekt Red announced that The Witcher 3 had managed to sell 40 million units, which means an additional 10 million were sales made in a single year.
Part of the reason The Witcher 3 is still so beloved and popular is that CD Projekt Red constantly releases updates for the game, improving everything from performance issues to visual quality, ray tracing and more.
There is also no denying that the success of The Witcher adaption on Netflix has also led to an influx of new players finding the game for the first time. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
Now I want to know what you think about these crazy sales numbers for a game old enough to be a couple of years into primary school. Let me know in the comments.
