Daedalic Entertainment Sort Of Apologises For Lord Of The Rings: Gollum

One of my all-time favourite game developers is Daedalic Entertainment, the studio behind some of the best modern point-and-click games, from the Deponia franchise to the highly underrated State of Mind. They are also the studio behind the newly released Lord Of The Rings: Gollum, and I can not comprehend how far the mighty have fallen.

Don’t get me wrong, Lord Of The Rings: Gollum is a terrible game. Everything from the awful rendition of Gollum to almost unplayable game mechanics, it’s just bad on nearly every level. Also, for those who think I just went into the game with overly high expectations, one look at Gollum wiped all that away. I went into the game without hope, yet I was still disappointed.

It turns out I’m not the only one either, as Lord Of The Rings: Gollum is already one of the worst-reviewed games of 2023, a title I can’t say the game doesn’t deserve. However, all this negativity online has forced Daedalic Entertainment to leave its hiding hole and release an official statement/apology.

If you’re not in the mood to read the Tweet, here is a summary: Daedalic Entertainment says they value the feedback they’re received. They have read the communities comments and concerns. They vow to work diligently to address the bugs and technical issues the game is plagued with.

“Our goal as a studio, and as passionate The Lord of the Rings fans, has always been to tell a compelling and immersive story-driven adventure. Crafting a story with Middle-earth as our playground has been the greatest honour—and the biggest challenge we have faced so far.

At Daedalic, we understand that a game’s success relies on the enjoyment and satisfaction of its players. We genuinely value your feedback and have been actively listening to your voices, reading your comments, and analysing the constructive criticism and suggestions you have provided.

Our development team has been working diligently to address the bugs and technical issues many of you experienced. We are committed to providing you with patches that will allow you to enjoy the game to its fullest potential.

Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused, and we appreciate your understanding during this time.” – Daedalic Entertainment.

Daedalic Entertainment also claimed they would keep everyone updated on the progress of patches meant to fix some of the many issues the game released with. However, in the case of Lord Of The Rings: Gollum, I fear this is too late as I can’t imagine too many players racing back to the game just because they can now progress past a previously broken puzzle.

Have you tried Lord Of The Rings: Gollum? And if so, what did you think about the game? Let me know in the comments.
