If hearing the name Atari doesn’t give you the warm and fuzzies then you probably need to see a doctor. At the very least hearing the words “Atari announces new game” should make an “Ooo” sound come out of your mouth.
Well, Atari has announced a new game, Days of Doom. This time around they are teaming up with SneakyBox to bring us a turn-based tactical RPG Rogue-lite, set in a post-apocalyptic world. However, this post-apocalyptic world is not your stereotypical one, ok maybe it is, but Atari and SneakyBox have decided to add some flavour to it by introducing some colour with a completely hand-drawn art style, similar to that of Plants vs Zombies, mixed with a little Dungeons Brah.
Days of Doom promises a procedurally generated world, where the goal is to reach Sanctuary, a safe haven for those that have survived the onslaught of zombies, raiders and zombie-raiders. This procedural generation means no two runs will be the same, quite typical of a rogue-lite.
Players must manage their clan of rag-tag survivors, picked from eight different classes, ranging from Gunslinger to Hydromancer. They will also have to manage resources to keep their clan upbeat and well-fed by providing a base camp for the team to recover in between battles.
With over 70 items to collect on your way to Sanctuary, dozens of enemies and two “surprisingly brutal” boss fights. Days of Doom looks like a good way to spend a weekend curled up on the couch, smashing in the heads of your enemies.
Although no release date has been announced, we can expect to see the game on all platforms; Steam, Epic, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and even Atari VCS.
