Just when I thought an expensive month was finally behind me, Lego came around and yanked the figurative rug out from under me. The new product Lego has unveiled is a Pac-Man Arcade Machine. And yes, it is as awesomely amazing as it sounds.
I have vivid memories from my childhood of standing next to my mom, watching her take on the ghosts in Pac-Man at an actual arcade machine, and desperately hoping I could one day be as good as she was at the game. That talent never really blossomed in me, but having my own Lego arcade machine would be an excellent way to visually represent life dreams not met.
The Pac-Man Arcade Machine comprises of 2,651 pieces, and it comes complete with moving parts, a light-up coin slot, buttons, and more for the low price of R5,209. Now don’t get me wrong, that’s hardly small change, but it is still cheaper than an actual arcade machine and, if you ask me, cooler too.

To break it down, the Pac-Man Arcade Machine Lego set has large models of Pac-Man and Blinky and Clyde ghosts. These can be changed to either show Pac-Man running from the ghosts or the ghosts running from Pac-Man, as they should.
The arcade machine features pushable buttons, a joystick, a coin slot that lights up, and a crank that can be turned to simulate Pac-Man running around the maze. But perhaps the most remarkable thing about this set is a hidden easter egg.
If you flip the machine around, a removable back panel houses a Lego figure of a woman playing on a tiny version of the ac-Man arcade machine – how cool is that? When talking about this set, the designer, Sven Franic, had this to say:
“We are always looking for new and exciting ways to bring classic gaming experiences to life. Our team of talented designers worked tirelessly to capture the essence of the beloved Pac-Man arcade machine in brick form, from Pac-Man himself to the colourful, maze-like environment he inhabits. Every detail was carefully considered and crafted, resulting in a one-of-a-kind LEGO creation that captures the magic of the original game while adding a playful new twist and a couple of Easter eggs – in true video game style.”
The Pac-Man Arcade Machine Lego set will be available from the 4th of June.
