Ed Boon The Creator Of Mortal Kombat Teases New Origin Stories

Ed Boon, perhaps best known as the creator of one of the world’s most beloved fighting games, Mortal Kombat, has taken to Twitter to tease some of the new origin stories that Mortal Kombat 1 will introduce to the established franchise.

It’s only been a week since NetherRealm Studios officially revealed the next game in the Mortal Kombat franchise, and already it’s one of the most anticipated games set to release this year.

Since the game was revealed, NetherRealm has confirmed details left and right. Some finer points they’ve elaborated on in the last week are how this new universe was formed following the events of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath’s canon ending and how Mortal Kombat 1 will usher in a new era for the franchise.

Part of the changes the game will usher in is that the characters, gamers know and love, will have different roles and backstories from their direct counterparts from the previous timeline.

According to Ed Boon, Mileena’s origin will be further explored in Mortal Kombat 1, alongside several other characters, who will need new backstories for this new timeline. This was hinted at in the official trailer, where Scorpion and Sub-Zero were seen uniting instead of fighting to the death as they usually would.

These upcoming changes should pave the way to more dynamic storylines and change up the game players know and love while remaining true to its core.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be arriving on the 19th of September for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
