If you’re anything like me, the last few nights have passed in a wondrously fantastical blur as you play The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom while ignoring everything else, like showering or eating. However, if you’ve had more restraint and spent Mother’s Day with your mom and your work nights going to bed at reasonable hours, this guide is for you.
Much like the first game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a gigantic open-world game that will keep players playing for hours, days, weeks and maybe even months to come. Each Zelda game has always had that one thing, a single item, that was vitally important to enjoying the game and in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, that item is the paraglider.
So if you’re already playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom but still need to unlock the paraglider, or if you’re only diving into the game this weekend – here is everything you need to know.

To unlock the handy dandy paraglider, you need to leave the lake below The Temple of Time and follow the yellow mission marker to Lookout Landing. Here you’ll should find a little makeshift fort where youy can buy needed armour, supplies and even meet some townspeople.
In this fort, you should find and talk to Purah, the head of Lookout Landing, to begin the quest Crisis at Hyrule Castle. When you complete the quest, you’ll return to Purah, who will then invite you to Explore Lookout Landing.
After this, you should head to the Skyview Tower on the northwest side of Lookout Landing. Purah will be there and show you how to use the towers to reveal regions on their map, and then, Purah will give you the paraglider.
If you don’t know what a big deal this is, the paraglider allows players to drop down from any height and safely make it to the ground. It also is a way to cross ravines, chasms, and rivers.

Flying the paraglider can, however, feel tricky for the first while before it feels like it clicks. To try and break it down, when you are in midair because you’ve thrown yourself off a sky island, you need to press the X button to open the glider.
To descend, you can either press b to close the glider or push R to dive down. While the paraglider is active, the left stick controls the direction, and the right stick controls the camera.
The time that you can glide in the air depends entirely on your stamina. If you want to glide further, you’ll need to first upgrade your stamina in the game.
However, running out of stamina mid-glide doesn’t necessarily mean certain death, so long as you can find the bird-shaped Zonai device, that is. This device is known as The Wing, and you can land on top of it to recover stamina before heading out again.
