Redfall Shows Shockingly Low Player Numbers Less Than Two Weeks After Launch

Each year there is a game that would undoubtedly win a Golden Raspberry Award if they were awarded to video games. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t firmly believe that Forspoken was that game for 2023. But it would seem I spoke too soon because at this point, Redfall is giving Forspoken a run for its money, literally.

After being one of the year’s most hyped and sought-after game releases, Redfall has fallen into the red with shockingly low player numbers. This does not bode well for a AAA game under two weeks old.

Released in May (a month previously synonymous with winners; it is my birthday month, after all), Redfall is the latest title from industry veterans Arkane Studios. While Arkane Studios has multiple successful titles, such as Dishonored and Prey, Redfall became one of the lowest-ratest Steam games within just 24 hours of release.

However, the root cause for Redfall’s downfall is yet to be revealed because, as of now, all we’ve seen is the developers pointing to Microsoft and Microsoft pointing to the developers. However, the historically low day-one sales for one of the year’s most anticipated games do at least have a tangible culprit, Xbox Game Pass, the world’s best-loved cannibal.

But back to the story, according to data from SteamDB, Redfall only saw 376 concurrent players yesterday and is on course to drop below 150 players by month’s end. To drive this number home, Arkane Studios’ 11-year-old game Dishonored saw over 700 active players within the last day, almost double what Redfall is drawing less than two weeks after launch.

Until the game was released, Arkane Studios was still highly vocal about its plans for post-launch content. However, the focus should be on reviving the dying game before trying to dress it up.
