The Legend of Zelda Movie Not Happening Anytime Soon

Eiji Aonuma, the producer of the newly released The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game, has just gone public saying that he would jump at the chance to adapt The Legend of Zelda franchise onto the big screen.

While previously, video-game-to-screen adaptations had a pretty lousy track record and reputations, thanks to outliers like the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Detective Pikachu and The Last of Us, this perception is starting to change, and more and more studios are looking to take full advantage of this upward momentum.

So far, 2023 has been an excellent year for Nintendo, who has seen success with the box office-breaking Super Mario Bros. Movie and now with the hugely anticipated Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom release.

Over the years, fans have been vocal about wanting to see The Legend of Zelda adaptation; thanks to Mario finally taking that step, maybe it’s not such a far-fetched dream.

In an interview between Polygon and Eiji Aonuma, Eiji was asked if the recent success of Mario has him wanting to see Zelda adapted, to which he responded that as much as he would love to see it happen, his voice isn’t the only one that matters and currently, a film adaptation of the Zelda series isn’t in the cards.

While this is undoubtedly sad for fans who have wanted an adaption, just because it’s not happening now doesn’t mean it won’t happen, and honestly, this is a franchise Nintendo would be stupid to ignore, and Nintendo is anything but stupid.
