Who remembers the 1920s? I know I sure do, and most notably, I remember the rubber hose style of animation that drove me to initially becoming a gamer. Ok, maybe not all of that is true, but what is true is a game dev team by the name of Fumi Games is making an attempt to bring that rubber hose style animation to the 2020s.
In a recent teaser trailer drop, Fumi Games lets us have a little taste of a game called Mouse. Its Steam page lists it as “a gritty, jazz-fueled shooter. With guns blazing and a retro rubber hose animation style, battle your way through a corrupt city full of crooks and danger. Inspired by classic FPS and noir films, MOUSE is the explosive shooter you’ve been waiting for.”
I couldn’t help but hose myself while watching the teaser. Giving us a glimpse of a few of the weapons that’ll be on offer, the not-so-gruesome decapitations and a few of the other death animations on offer. I’m ready to swing my four-fingered-fists right into them bad guys’ faces, see, but unfortunately, we have yet to get a release date for Mouse. Judging by the teaser, there is still a lot of work to be done. Let’s not rush the dev team into pushing out something sub-par; I mean, it’s only been 100 or so years since this kind of animation style was really popular. Just don’t let Cuphead hear that I said that; I’m scared of that game. It’s so hard!
