Smugglers Busted with Over 70 Graphics Cards and… Lobsters?

In the most recent events of “weird things that just get weirder”, two gentlemen were caught by the Hong Kong police in attempt to smuggle a little bit of hardware across the border.

The two of them stated that they had an empty van, but it turns out that they had over 70 Nvidia Graphics cards in the back, a long side 280kg of live lobster. I don’t know about you, but something smells fishy here. The Hong Kong police claim that the value of the graphics cards alone comes up to over R1,2 million, but with the tiniest amount of observation, you can see that the cards are Nvidia Quadro K2200’s. Those cards are around 10 years old and would probably have a hard time playing Crysis.

Second-hand market prices in Hong Kong list the value of the cards at closer to R1,000 a piece, meaning this haul has been severely over-valued. Unless you really enjoy lobster.

What’s even weirder than smuggling 10-year-old cards with a seafood meal fit for King Charles? Not having any logical reason to do so. The only reason we can think up is that this Lobster League decided to do it was to try and avoid the 13% sales tax in China, but with lobster so readily available and a piece of hardware no one anywhere is looking for, it just doesn’t make sense.

Maybe you’re an ichthyologist and know that  Lobster tail makes for excellent cooling? If you do have any idea let’s discuss them over a seafood meal in the comments below.
