Hybrid RTS/FPS Silica Now in Early Access

I am willing to bet my lunch that every single strategy game player has at one point imagined what it would be like to be one of the grunts on the field of battle rather than floating high up in the sky controlling the whole army.

I know there are games out there that have tried this before, my most notable one being Foxhole, but Bohemia Interactive, the team that brought us ArmA and, in turn, DayZ, have just released their spin on the RTS/FPS Hybrid genre.

Silica launched into early access and hopes to become a full release in the next 9 to 12 months. The game lands the player on an alien planet (name of planet) 1000 lightyears away from Earth. The objective is to mine the mineral (mineral name) beneath the silica deposits on the planet’s surface. However, it’s not as easy as landing there and scooping it all up. Two rivalling human factions are ready to go to an all-out war for the stuff, and the indigenous alien race is also unwilling to give up its resources so quickly.

You can choose between one of the two human races or the alien race and defeat the enemy using a hybrid combination of RTS “Lead from above” style base building and FPS “Shoot from the ground” style combat.

A little trailer fills us in on how the hybrid gameplay will work.

The game’s early access era will start with six locations, three races to choose from, five infantry classes, 11 human vehicles and eight alien creatures; all jam-packed into three game modes: Traditional PVP/AI RTS FPS hybrid game, a Co-op resource collection FPS game mode and an all-out FPS arena mode.

The game is currently at R185 on Steam and is available immediately.
