Everyone’s favourite VoIP and messaging program has decided that all its users look too comfortable and are mixing things up with changes that, even though no one asked for, are sure to be appreciated.
Discord has been around for roughly the last eight years now. It is a text, voice, and video communication service that has quickly become a go-to among gamers of all ages and across all platforms.
Thanks to an announcement released through an official Discord blog post, we know that usernames will soon change. All Usernames across Discord consist of the custom name you choose and then a set of four numbers that Discord chooses. This system is OK at best and is known for slowing down the adding of friends, if you’ve ever had the displeasure of shouting seven! While your friend types eleven, you know what I’m talking about.
When the new update rolls out, this struggle will be a thing of the past. Now usernames will be unique, all lowercase names preceded by an @ symbol, much like how usernames work on Twitter. The hope is that this will help to streamline finding and adding friends on the platform.
Those who hate change don’t have to worry about the rug being pulled out all at once. This change will be gradually rolled out over the coming weeks. Users will be notified when they can update their usernames.
Over the years, Discord has genuinely established itself as the best social hub for gamers, no matter where they play. Thanks to this coming update, Discord will be easier to navigate than ever before.
