Next-Gen Version Of The Division 2 Is Unlikely

For a good few years now, fans of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 have eagerly awaited the day Massive Entertainment would announce a version of the game explicitly recreated for next-gen consoles. Still, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like that day is close to the horizon.

In a recent interview, Massive Entertainment stated that even though fans are ready and waiting, a next-gen release is unlikely to materialise. This sad news comes after a series of technical problems plagued the launch of The Division 2 Season 11, which was eventually released late last month.

The Division 2 was first released for PC and consoles in 2019 and quickly found a dedicated fan base thanks to the innovative gameplay loop and unlockables that encourage players to return to the game each time a new rollout of content arrives. Earlier this month, the game released its Year 5 roadmap, which just reignited calls from fans for an updated version.

However, in a new interview, The Division 2 creative director Yannick Banchereau has stubbed out all hope for a next-gen version when he stated that taking full advantage of new consoles would mean the game would no longer be available on older generation devices.

Yannick further stated that to avoid fragmenting the player base by cutting off players using older hardware, the decision was made not to pursue a next-gen rebuild. While what Yannick said makes a disappointing amount of sense, it is sad that The Division 2 won’t be taking full advantage of next-gen consoles anytime soon.

Gamers who choose to play The Division 2 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have some advantages compared to older consoles regarding higher framerates and resolutions. At least for now, it seems like that’s as good as it will get.
